Start-up Summary

Jibati blends Vedic agriculture with agroecology for production in which both farmers and members share a mutual interest in the crop. Jibati began by selling consumables especially spices, beans and lentils, mustard oil, cow ghee, local incense, and natural food supplements mostly to members of the Kathmandu-based Spiritual Center Shiva Shiva Dham.  Jibati has managed specialty food processing, packaging, and marketing for the last 10 years through informal cooperation among farmers and local entrepreneurs. Jibati has formulated Enhanced Jeera Masala (पुर्णजिरामसला) prepared after 5 years of trial with more than 100 families to assure quality and culturally acceptable taste to enhance daily nutrient density. All activities engaged women’s groups and were processed in a rent-free space offered by one of its members in Kathmandu. It invested in a few machines and warehouses and established systems for delivering products to members.
